The annual International Festival-Contest for professionals and semi-professionals is dedicated to the great singer Alfiya Avzalova, the founder of pop- singing of Tatar folk songs, which has gone down in the history of the development of ethnic culture of the multinational population of Russia, which has become famous and popular among compatriots living in many countries of the World. Alfiya Avzalova, possessing exceptional talent, performed songs in 17 languages of the world. With the concert program “Songs of the World”, she turned out to be one of the most popular singers of her time and who has remained in the memory of the people today.

The First International Festival Contest named after Alfiya Avzalova, was held with great success in October 2018 in Kazan, the Republic of Tatarstan, gathering over 500 participants from the Russian Federation and over 40 foreign participants from the USA, China, India, Egypt, Uzbekistan,Izrael and other countries. The Gala concert was held at the prestigious Pyramid Complex in Kazan.More
Over the next years, laureates of the I Festival Contest took part in a Gala concert in Moscow, Baku, Azerbaijan, the International Festival “Ballet Beyond Borders” in Los Angeles, California, USA, where they received the highest awards among 6000 participants from 35 countries.
The First International Festival Contest named after Alfiya Avzalova, received a Certificate from the European Association of Folklore Festivals (EAFF), thereby confirming the status of “International”.

Life span: 15 January 1933 — 15 June 2017
Alfia Avzalovna Avzalova was born in Iana Kaban village,Kaltacinsky district, Bashkortostan on January 15, 1933. At the age of 5 she became an orphan and was brought up in orphan asylum, and then her mother’s sister took her to family in Aktanysh District of the Republic of Tatarstan. From childhood Alfia was distinguished by her remarkable musical abilities. At the age of 15, being a schoolgirl, she actively participated in various concert amateur programs.
One day a group of artists of Tatar State Philharmonia, headed by then-noted singer Rashid Vagapov, came to the village. He heard old folk Tatar songs, performed by Alfia, and immediately discovered her remarkable natural talent. In the same year a troupe from the State Song and Dance Ensemble of Tatarstan invited her to join their group, where subsequently she became the solo singer.
The former village girl conquered the capital of Tatarstan and was the first whocreated the new development in the Tatar art — performing variety songs on Tatar and other languages accompanied by the instrumental group “Kazan Utlary” — “Kazan Lights”. Alfia Avzalova had songs of famous composers on 17 languages on her repertoire; it had more than 500 songs. Singer’s popularity was so phenomenal that Alfia could give more than 100 concerts during bimonthly tour. She toured all the cities of the Soviet Union and Union Republics, and then Russia, foreign countries.
Alfia Avzalova is decorated by numerous state awards and titles: Honored Artist of Russia, Honored Artist of Tatarstan; twice awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labour, the Order of Merit of the Republic of Tatarstan, State prize winner.

Effective culture dialogue, as well as Fruitful development and popularization of national music may be achieved by performing folk songs in their original language or translated into the other languages, preserving the unique images but using universal up-to-date innovative arrangements and progressive sound solutions, combining original folk and modern music instruments. The actual Tatar musical culture is inextricably bound up with the name of the famous singer Alfia Avzalova, who made a great contribution to the development and popularization of the Tatar national musical art. Her outstanding talent, originality and ability to touch the hearts of listeners all over the world, as well as uniqueness of her creativity, which harmoniously combined the centuries-old Tatar cultural heritage and progressive, modern sound made her a favorite singer of several generations. Avzalova made the program “Songs of Different Nations of the World” in the 60s of the XX century. It was a period when the USSR was mainly a politically and culturally closed state, but in spite of this fact A.Avsalova sang songs in different 17 languages of the world and, thanks to her performing talent, made the music of other peoples and countries close and clear. On the one hand, Alfia Avzalova was open to new ideas and always interested in the music of other peoples, and on the other hand, she carefully loved her native culture and was eager to disclose it to the world. This paradigm and approach remains important and valuable also today. Moreover, the program “Songs of Different Nations of the World” performed in the original and Tatar languages still contributes to the internationalization of Tatar folk culture. The concept of Alfia Avzalova Foundation belong to the singer herself. It was registered as the non-profit public benefit organization in Kazan, Republic of Tatarstan Russian Federation in 2009. The primary objective under the Foundation Charter is preservation and development of people’s and variety arts based on traditions created by our great artists. A part of fund, that may be accumulated in the Foundation account will be directed to help elderly artists, disabled persons, who are in need of material and social assistance.

Creation of Memorial Center of Art named after Alfia Avzalova, with expositions from singer’s life and works, inextricably connected with history of Tatarstan, Russia that are interest of youth. Preservation and development of Tatar national art traditions, inextricably connected with global culture, history of Tatar people and the Republic of Tatarstan Russian Federation; support for youth development, permanent selection and assistance for talented representatives of people of Tatarstan, Russia, foreign countries; workshops with leading artist, who have received recognition in our country and abroad with a use of modern creation studio conditions. Development international relations with organizations in the sphere of arts are one of the priority directions of Foundation activities.
